Metal Fabrications and Stampings

We work with several factories that specialize in a variety of metal fabrications.  Each has their own equipment list, so we do not list them here. All of our metal forming and fabrications  are custom made.  When your requirements are matched with the right supplier, we will gladly offer more detailed information.

In light of this we have chosen to help you start your inquiry by stating the advantages
and disadvantages of each process to help you determine which process suits your needs.

Castings

We offer several different types of castings to meet your requirements:

Die Casting

Best suited for small to medium size parts with higher volume requirements.

Advantages include minimal secondary finishing operations, high production
runs, economical, tighter tolerances, thin walls, and consistency.

100% recyclable material

In some applications cast parts are preferred over plastic because they offer
better strength, tolerate higher temperatures, and have a lower impact on the environment.

Disadvantages for die cast parts are weight (less than 30 grams/1oz) and size restrictions (24 inches/600mm), high initial costs, and some material limitations.

Best suited materials are copper, lead, aluminum, zinc, and tin based alloys

Investment Casting

Best suited for parts that are small, include intricate design, and demand high reliability

Advantages are accuracy, consistency, tight tolerances, thin walls, finished appearance,
complex shapes, variety of alloys, and low material waste.

Disadvantages are increased piece price due to additional manufacturing processes,
individual patterns required for each casting (increase tooling costs), and limited dimensions.

Most commonly used alloys are carbon, tool and alloy steel, and multiple grades of Stainless steel,

Sand Casting

Best suited for parts that are simple in design and may be a large size

Advantages include low cost molds, low cost piece price, larger parts,
and it produces less waste since material can be added to next run.

Disadvantages include surface finish, limited wall thickness, decreased tolerances, and
lower porosity.

Common materials are aluminum alloys, brass alloys, cast iron and cast steel.

Forgings

Are best suited to applications where tensile strength, ductility, impact and fracture toughness, along with material fatigue, are important.

Forged parts have optimal grain flow, and are free from internal voids and porosity that may be found in cast parts. The main characteristic of a forged part is integrity of the part.

Other advantages include near net shape and require less secondary processes.
Forged parts also generate little scrap material.

This process is advantageous in any designs that involve safety issues including aerospace, automotive, valves, and fire suppression.

Disadvantages may be the higher tooling cost, tolerances and piece price on low volumes.

Metal Stamping

We offer a variety of metal stampings : folding, bending, formed, deep drawn,
rolled and swag ed, extruded, progressive dies.

Our applications have included housing probes for meat thermometers, heat sensors for copiers, jacuzzi and water heaters. Also numerous medical applications and metal boxes of various sizes.

Deep Drawn/Rolled

Deep drawn parts are best suited to parts where the depth of the part is equal to or greater
than the radius. It is also an option when seamless parts are required (ie housings) or
complex axi-symemetical parts.

Rolled steel is very common in housing applications where the diameter is set and only
the length and tip need to be detemined.

Machined

We are able to machine parts that have been forged or cast.  We are able to machine from
bar stock or hex stock.

We eliminate the need to have a secondary company finish your parts, we can provide the
parts as a completed product including painting, finishing and embossing.

Finishes

Powder coating, painting, e-coating, black anodize, black oxide, polished, buffed, flat, shinny, annodize, silk screen, electroplate, chromate, passivate, nickel plate, electroless
nickel plating
